 Dr. Shi Jianchu, Associate professor

Dr. Shi Jianchu was born in Hunan Province of China on March 27, 1978. He received the B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degree from China Agricultural University in 2001, 2004 and 2007, respectively. He was a Post-Doc at the Gilat Research Center of Israel’s Agricultural Research Organization from December 2011 to December 2012.

He became an Associate Professor in China Agricultural University in January 2013. He is the vice dean of the department of Soil and water Sciences in the College of Resources and Environmental Sciences from 2010.

His research interests are mainly on the simulation of soil water and solute transport and the principle and practice of water-saving agriculture and water management. He has supposed an inverse method to estimate the source-sink term in the convection-dispersion equation (CDE), which is helpful to optimize the unknown parameters in the source-sink term. He has found the significant linear relationship between root water/nitrogen uptake and root nitrogen mass rather than root length, and has improved the uptake models. He has also investigated an advanced method to estimate the degree of water stress suffered by plants (plant water deficit index, PWDI) based on the distributions of soil water and roots, rather than the amount of water in root zone as the traditional method.
