The Hydrological Session, HS08 Hydrological Processes in Agricultural Lands, of the 14th Annual Meeting of Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AGOS) conference, has been successfully held in Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre, Singapore, on August 8-9, 2017. HS08 is one of the sessions in Hydrological Sciences. This session was convened by Dr. Jun Niu from the Center for Agricultural Water Research in China (CAWR). The professors and researchers from United Arab Emirates University, Indian Institute of Technology, Vellore Institute of Technology, Texas A&M University, Kangwon National University, Technical University of Denmark,The University of Hong Kong, the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and China Agricultural University gave totally 6 oral and 3 poster presentations at this session.

Prof. Ahmed Ali Murad from United Arab Emirates University analyzed the interplay between farming and groundwater natural radioactivity. Dr. Narendra Kuamr Yadav from Indian government irrigation workshop presented us numerical modeling of effect of groundwater velocities on efficiency of ground source heat exchange. Dr. Haiyun Shi from the University of Hong Kong discussed spatial-temporal characteristics of potential evaporation and the driving mechanism over Tibet in China. Dr. Ying Ma talked about the seasonal variation in evapotranspiration partitioning and water uptake patterns for improving water use efficiency of winter wheat using stable isotopes. Dr. Jun Niu from CAWR reported the irrigation effects on water and energy balances over an agricultural land in Northwest China, and Dr. Liu Liu from the center analyzed the quantitative attribution of runoff changes in the Heihe River basin. The audience of about 50 attended the session, who are from Tsinghua University, Xi'an Jiaotong UniversitySwiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, University of New South Wales, and Chinese Academy of Sciences discussed the scientific issues with the speakers.

For the posters, the presented work includes the investigation of groundwater recharge from a paddy rice field during rice growing season in the Haean basin of Korea, the estimation of actual groundwater pumping amount using electricity monitoring data, and the phosphate and nitrate modelling using SWAT in San Jacinto basin, Texas, USA.

In addition, Dr. Jun Niu from CWAR was invited as an AOGS HS session expert to attend the student program Meeting the Experts. He met students individually and discussed with them on the numerical modeling issues and provide some advice on scientific paper drafting.
